Aldermore’s Corporate Governance Playbooks

for Aldermore’s board and executive committees

the brief

British specialist bank Aldermore Group Plc partnered with Kuberno Ltd on an end-to-end governance transformation programme. Kuberno is a practitioner-led, governance focused business that combines technology and consultancy to help companies navigate through governance complexity. As part of their governance transformation within the Aldermore Group, Kuberno and Aldermore designed streamlined and efficient governance processes to underpin the new framework. As part of this project, Kuberno engaged us to design the Board and Executive governance playbooks.

the goal

THE GOAL The goal was to design easy to use, playful and engaging corporate governance playbooks, that serve as day-to-day practical guides, communicating Aldermore’s values and identity. We focused on using plain language, practical information and ease of navigation.

the process

We ran several cocreation workshops with Aldermore stakeholders to explore their needs and define the information architecture. We held several interviews with Aldermore board and committee members to learn about their wants, needs and day-to-day work. During the process of drafting and sketching the playbooks, we held regular cocreation sessions, iterating language, layout and design elements.

the result

Concise, research-based Board and Executive committee ‘no-rules’ playbooks based on the actual board and committees’ needs. The playbooks are easy to read and navigate. All common questions are answered about board operations, minutes, establishing committees and much more.
“The Board and Executive Playbooks are making our client’s stakeholders lives easier. We created engaged stakeholders – which reduces the time requirements on the Cosec team and creates efficiencies for stakeholders as they are able to self-help.” — Zoe Bucknell co-founder Kuberno Ltd

What our client says about this project

“As part of rethinking the role a company secretary plays in delivering great governance, we need to help the Cosec community move away from legalistic and dense documents that gather dust and are never read to engaging and useful content – delivered in a format and place that is useful and used by their stakeholders. Legal Design (or as we are now calling it “Governance Design”) combines a technical understanding of the topic with information design skills and tools to achieve our goal for our clients.” — Zoe Bucknell co-founder Kuberno Ltd
